Sandor Marai is one of my favorites, but I always read him with the painful realization that he ended his life hanging over me. What a tragedy this loss of life. What is it about these great writers suffering the Sylvia Plath effect? If only he knew how his words still have a critical impact on the thoughts and attitudes of those reading him. I look forward to the next translation.
